Teaching Swimming Strokes, the Swim Smart Way!

Here at Swim Smart, we like to simplify things. When teaching young kids tough swimming motions, it helps to break things down and use just a few drills to practice. Here are the drills and thought process around how we teach the strokes, dives and turns on our team.

How do we do this:

  1. Breakdown the stroke into it's most important components.
  2. Find a one drill for each component.
  3. Build the stroke up piece by piece, using the drills we've chosen.
  4. Practice throughout the season using the few chosen drills.
  5. Use "optional drills" like tools to fix specific problems.
